The Pennington family of New Jersey is descended from Ephraim Pennington, one of the first settlers of Newark, N.J. Pennington Satterthwaite was the son of Rosalie Pennington and Franklin Satterthwaite. He was born in Newark, N.J.; graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1893; then studied art in Paris till 1900.
